Myrtle Beach Restaurant Inspections Uncover Serious Health Violations

Myrtle Beach’s Restaurant Inspections Reveal Troubling Findings

Hey there, food lovers of Myrtle Beach! It seems like our favorite dining spots have been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons lately. The latest round of restaurant inspections conducted by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) has turned up some unsavory issues, and we’re here to give you the scoop!

What’s Cooking in the Kitchen?

Between October 17 and November 1, inspectors had their work cut out for them in Horry and Georgetown County, checking a total of 358 restaurants. When all was said and done, eight eateries received C grades and another eight earned B grades. But wait, there’s a twist! Only five of those spots actually scored below the coveted 88 points.

Spotlight on the Troubled Restaurants

Let’s dive right into the details of some of these inspections and the not-so-appetizing findings that came with them.

🔥 Copacabana Brazilian Restaurant 🔥

Address: 201 N. Kings Highway

Score: 70

During an inspection on October 17, the inspectors had quite the fright, discovering many live and dead roaches on food contact surfaces, walls, and floors. To make matters worse, there were also signs of rodent droppings lurking in the cabinets and other grim findings throughout the kitchen.

Fast forward to a follow-up inspection on October 24, and it seemed the owners got the message loud and clear — they aced their redo with a sparkling 100! Kudos for the quick turnaround!

🥞 Spring Garden Pancake House 🥞

Address: 1702 S. Ocean Blvd.

Score: 73

Not too far down the road, the Spring Garden Pancake House had its own set of problems identified in an inspection on October 28. Foods like sausages and hash browns were being stored at unsafe temperatures. Yikes! They also had the dastardly issue of dirty utensils posing as clean. All in all, they’ll need a follow-up by November 7 to remedy the safe storing of yummy breakfast items.

🍜 Jimmyz Original Hibachi House 🍜

Address: 1780 Pine Island Road

Score: 75

Jumping over to Jimmyz Original Hibachi House, their inspection revealed a similar trend with boxes of food sitting on the floor and improper storage of cooked rice and steak at unsafe temperatures. It’s a good thing they have a follow-up on the books for November 7 to clean up these issues.

🍔 Backstreet Cafe 🍔

Address: 4109 Walnut St.

Score: 79

The Backstreet Cafe had some real eye-opening violations during its inspection on October 30. Think raw beef stored above ready-to-eat food, which just shouldn’t happen! And old food sitting in the microwave? Not cool. They’ve got until November 8 to address the raised concerns before more trouble brews.

🌭 Loris Mini Mart 🌭

Address: 3201 Highway 701 S.

Score: 85

Last on the list, we have Loris Mini Mart, which found itself in hot water regarding unsafe food temperatures and other pressing issues during an inspection on the same day as Backstreet Cafe. They’ll also need to follow up by November 8.

Takeaway for Diners

So, dear diners, what does this mean for you? It’s a great reminder to keep an eye on the restaurants you love. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about their food safety practices! Let’s support our local eateries while ensuring we keep it safe and delicious!
