A high-profile road rage shooting case is all set to head to trial after a judge refused to dismiss it on August 23, 2024. The accused, Anthony Maurice Garner, 44, hails from Albemarle and faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Brutal Incident Shakes the City
The charges are related to a shocking incident that took place on the bustling 2300 block of North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. Law enforcement authorities were alerted to a shooting at about 10:49 p.m. on May 25. The victim, identified as Cedric Reddick, a 31-year-old resident of Columbia, was treated at the scene but did not pull through.
Cedric Reddick, the unfortunate victim of the tragedy, died as a result of multiple progressive gunshot injuries. The discovery was confirmed by Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
Eventual Arrest and Family’s Reaction
Myrtle Beach Police Cpl. Christopher Starling elaborated on the incident, stating that from their investigations, it appeared the altercation started between Garner and an individual known to the victim. The argument is believed to have been sparked by road rage. Escalating tensions led to Garner allegedly discharging his firearm, with the fatal bullet striking Reddick.
Garner, however, was not present at the preliminary hearing where the motion to dismiss his case was denied. The refusal by the court to dismiss the case has stirred quite a reaction, especially amidst Reddick’s loved ones. Over a dozen family members and close friends were present in the courtroom when the judge announced the bold verdict. The matter has now shifted gears as all eyes are on the upcoming trial.
