Myrtle Beach – A shooting incident at Peaches Corner restaurant late on June 27, 2025, resulted in the death of 18-year-old Grayson Meyers. The teen sustained fatal injuries after a confrontation with 17-year-old Evony McCray, who has been charged with murder related to the incident.
The altercation unfolded around 11:15 p.m. when Meyers entered the restaurant and exchanged words with McCray. Following the verbal exchange, McCray reportedly drew a gun from his waistband and opened fire. An additional person was injured during the shooting but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Officers, already on duty in the vicinity, apprehended McCray just 24 seconds after the shooting occurred.
McCray faces multiple charges, including murder, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a minor. Police have yet to confirm whether there was any prior acquaintance between Meyers and McCray or if Meyers was armed during the incident. The Myrtle Beach Police Department has not disclosed the number of shots fired but indicated that one bullet struck a bystander in a crosswalk at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Ninth Avenue North.
Victor Shamah, operator of Peaches Corner, stated that employees are strictly prohibited from carrying weapons while at work. The Horry County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Grayson Meyers was the deceased individual. Earlier in the week, law enforcement dealt with another unrelated shooting incident involving a different Myrtle Beach teenager charged as an accessory to murder.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, community members and friends of the victim are advocating for justice and accountability for McCray’s actions. In efforts to assist with Grayson Meyers’ funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been launched. Additionally, the Myrtle Beach Police Department is contemplating revisions to curfew ordinances for minors in response to this incident.
Authorities are requesting anyone with videos or photos related to the shooting to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation. The incident has heightened concerns about youth violence in the community and has prompted discussions about potential preventive measures moving forward.
