News Summary

The Myrtle Beach Police Department has arrested Terrell Moore for assault and battery related to a recent shooting incident. Authorities are also investigating a separate Memorial Day weekend shooting that injured multiple individuals. The city is responding by increasing police presence amidst concerns over gun violence. Activists demand transparency concerning previous incidents as community safety remains a priority.

Myrtle Beach Shooting Update: Terrell Moore Charged; Ongoing Investigations into Memorial Day Weekend Incident

The Myrtle Beach Police Department has charged Terrell Moore, a 44-year-old local man, with assault and battery of a high aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following a shooting incident that occurred on June 2, 2025. The shooting took place in the 1400 block of South Ocean Boulevard, where one individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital.

Authorities responded to the incident shortly after it was reported, arriving at the scene by 5:42 p.m. While no further details about the victim’s condition have been released, the police have reiterated their commitment to addressing ongoing concerns within the community regarding gun violence.

Connections to Previous Incidents

In light of the recent shooting, activists and victims of gun violence have expressed their desire for more transparency surrounding a prior shooting incident that took place on April 26, which resulted in one fatality and left 11 others injured. In an effort to address public concerns, the city released dash cam footage relevant to the April shooting on May 29; however, civil rights advocate John C. Barnett critiqued the video’s quality and has called for the release of body cam footage to provide a clearer understanding of the events involving the earlier shooting.

Memorial Day Weekend Shooting Investigation

In a separate investigation, the Horry County Police Department continues to look into a shooting incident that occurred during Memorial Day weekend near a boat dock on Watson Avenue in Little River, a location approximately 30 minutes north of Myrtle Beach. This incident escalated into a violent confrontation aboard a private charter boat that was carrying over 120 individuals, resulting in injuries to 11 attendees, with 10 suffering from gunshot wounds.

As the investigation progresses, authorities announced the arrest of Shawon Shamarion Williams, a 19-year-old possibly from outside the Myrtle Beach area. Williams was apprehended in Illinois and is facing multiple counts of attempted murder in relation to the Memorial Day shooting, along with a weapons charge. He is slated to be extradited to South Carolina to face these charges, and police have indicated that more arrests may occur as the investigation continues.

Community Response and Law Enforcement Measures

In response to these incidents, the Myrtle Beach Police Department has increased law enforcement presence in the area and has advised the public to avoid the location of the Saturday shooting. This measure aims to ensure community safety amidst rising concerns regarding gun-related violence in the region.

Additional Developments in Myrtle Beach

Amid these troubling events, the city has seen plans for local development move forward, including the upcoming opening of 357 Brewers, a new brewery concept set to launch at the Grande Dunes Marina. This establishment aims to provide a space for craft brews, dining, and entertainment.

On another note, Horry County has proposed a financial offer of $6 million to Myrtle Beach for the city to assume control of the county’s share of Pelicans Ballpark. However, city officials have requested an increase in this amount to $10.5 million before proceeding with the agreement.

In political news, South Carolina State Rep. Jermaine Johnson is in the process of forming an exploratory committee in preparation for a prospective gubernatorial campaign scheduled for 2026. Over the past weekend, hundreds gathered at Democratic events, including Clyburn’s Fish Fry, to mobilize support for upcoming elections.

As investigations carry on and the community navigates these recent events, local authorities emphasize the importance of public safety and transparency as they address the ongoing challenges related to violence and community well-being.
