News Summary

The 2025 NCAA baseball tournament field is now set, showcasing the Southeastern Conference’s dominance with six of the top eight national seeds. Vanderbilt is the No. 1 overall seed following their SEC championship win. The tournament includes traditional powerhouses and promises thrilling matchups in the regional rounds, with games taking place in a double-elimination format. Notable absences include Georgia despite a high RPI. The event reflects the competitiveness of college baseball, set to culminate in the College World Series.

Indianapolis – The 2025 NCAA baseball tournament field has been finalized, with the Southeastern Conference (SEC) asserting its dominance by securing six of the top eight national seeds and eight of the 16 regional host sites. This year’s tournament marks a historic moment for the SEC, as it boasts a record number of participating teams, with 13 schools selected for the competition.

This year’s tournament was officially unveiled during a live streaming event on ESPN2 on Selection Monday. The No. 1 overall seed was awarded to Vanderbilt, following their SEC championship victory and a top finish in the NCAA’s Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). They are joined at the top of the rankings by other SEC powerhouses, including Texas (No. 2), Arkansas (No. 3), and Auburn (No. 4). Notably, Auburn’s inclusion as a top-four seed was unexpected, according to pre-tournament predictions, while Georgia, despite being ranked second in RPI, was excluded from the upper echelon of seeds.

In addition to the SEC’s strong showing, North Carolina (No. 5), Oregon State (No. 8), and Florida State (No. 9) round out the top ten seeds. Arizona State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and USC completed the bracket as the final four teams to qualify for the tournament. Conversely, Southeastern Louisiana, UConn, Troy, and Virginia missed out on the field, being the first four teams eliminated from consideration.

The event sees a return to the NCAA tournament format, which includes a series of regionals, super regionals, and culminates in the College World Series (CWS). The regional rounds are scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 2, followed by super regionals from June 6 to 9. The CWS is planned between June 13 and 23, with the finals occurring on either June 21 or June 23, depending on potential tiebreaker scenarios. Each regional adopts a double-elimination format, while the CWS championship is determined through a best-of-three series.

Among the compelling stories entering the tournament is the case of Stetson, which, despite trailing Florida Gulf Coast in the ASUN championship game due to severe weather conditions, secured an automatic bid. Stetson is projected to enter the tournament as a No. 3 seed in the Athens Regional.

The SEC’s influence in college baseball cannot be overstated, with six of the top seven seeds and seven of the top ten drawn from the conference. This year’s event also includes traditional powerhouses like Clemson, Coastal Carolina, and last year’s champion, Tennessee among notable national seeds. Additionally, Florida State stands out by hosting a regional for the 37th time, the most of any institution in the tournament’s history.

The regional matchups promise to be exciting, featuring renowned teams such as Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and North Carolina pitted against lower-seeded opponents. The layout showcases a four-team double-elimination format in each regional, with the eventual champions moving forward to compete in the super regionals.

The 2025 NCAA baseball tournament not only highlights the strength of SEC programs but also reflects the increasing competitiveness of college baseball as a whole, ensuring thrilling matchups on the path to the ultimate prize in college sports.
