While many celebrated the large wins, over 200 other players also enjoyed smaller prizes, with excitement continuing to build for future drawings. A group known as ‘The Money Team’ also celebrated a similar win, bringing positive energy around lottery participation in the state.
Charlotte, North Carolina – Three lucky players from North Carolina woke up $100,000 richer after the latest Powerball drawing held on Saturday night. This drawing took place just before the jackpot had soared to an astounding $1.8 billion, which was ultimately claimed by tickets sold in Missouri and Texas. The recent jackpot was the second-largest in U.S. lottery history, only surpassed by a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in 2022.
The numbers drawn in Saturday’s event were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the red Powerball 17. In North Carolina, four players matched the four white-ball numbers along with the red Powerball, which allowed them to earn $100,000 due to the active 2x “Power Play.” Without the Power Play feature, the basic prize for this combination would have been $50,000.
In addition to the grand winners, over 200 other players in North Carolina also celebrated wins of $200 by matching either four white-ball numbers or three white-ball numbers coupled with the Powerball, with many doubling their prizes using the Power Play feature as well. Following this drawing, the Powerball jackpot has reset to $20 million ahead of the next drawing scheduled for Monday night.
This isn’t the first significant win from North Carolina recently. A group of co-workers known as “The Money Team” also won $100,000 after purchasing a winning ticket at a Walmart in Charlotte on August 23. They matched the same winning numbers as the recent players. Initially, the team believed their ticket was worth only $500, but to their surprise, the group discovered during a call that they had won $100,000.
After taxes, “The Money Team” took home a total of $71,751 from their winnings. The excitement around such substantial wins has invigorated lottery players in the state and beyond, as the next Powerball drawing offers a life-changing jackpot of $1.4 billion, or approximately $634.3 million in cash.
The Powerball game continues to attract players nationwide, especially as the jackpots reach staggering heights. North Carolina has seen increased participation in the lottery, with many hopefuls speculating that the next lottery drawing could provide another big win for someone in the state.
The North Carolina Education Lottery, which oversees lottery games in the state, encourages responsible play and has shared the latest results and potential winnings through multiple platforms, ensuring that players are informed and engaged.
As the anticipation grows for the upcoming Powerball drawing, players are flocking to retailers, hopeful that they too can join the ranks of recent winners and change their lives forever. With big prizes on the line, every drawing brings excitement and dreams of financial freedom to thousands of participant households.
