Restored Power Celebration

Power Back On in Murrells Inlet After Sunday Outage

Murrells Inlet woke up to a little chaos yesterday, but the good news is that the electricity is finally back on! Earlier in the day, over 2,100 residents found themselves in the dark when a power outage hit around 4:30 p.m. Thankfully, Horry Electric Cooperative worked their magic and restored power by 6:45 p.m. Talk about a quick turnaround!

What Happened?

So what caused this little hiccup in our Sunday plans? A failed piece of electronic equipment was the culprit. Equipment failures can happen to anyone, even the electrical networks that keep our homes cozy and cool. With the heat soaring into the 80s and humidity sitting at around 73%, the timing of this outage was less than perfect. Can you imagine dealing with that sticky heat without any air conditioning? No thanks!

A Friendly Reminder

While many of us might have been enjoying seafood or catching up with friends at home when the lights went out, it’s worth remembering that these kinds of outages can happen at any time. So, it’s always a good idea to have a little emergency kit ready—think flashlights, candles, and snacks! Don’t forget to check the outage map website for real-time updates in case you find yourself wondering if it’s just you or if others are in the same boat.

What Was Everyone Doing During the Outage?

We can just imagine the scene as the lights flickered off—some folks were probably in the middle of cooking up a delicious Sunday dinner, while others might have been lounging in their living rooms, binge-watching the latest show. No doubt a few were getting creative with some board games or socializing over candles! While it’s a bummer to have the power go out, it’s kinda nice to see a community come together, even in unintended circumstances.

Thank You, Horry Electric!

Big shoutout to the team at Horry Electric Cooperative for working diligently to restore power. It’s not easy dealing with outages, and their efforts are always appreciated. Jennifer Cummings, a spokesperson for Horry Electric, shared the reassuring news that the restoration was successful and that everyone was free to safely enjoy their Sunday evening again.

What’s Next?

As we look to the week ahead, it’s always a great idea to keep an eye on the weather. After all, here in Myrtle Beach, we know things can heat up or cool down in no time! With warmer temperatures and higher humidity still in the mix, we might be in for more surprise outages, so staying informed is key.

While this weekend’s outage may have put a little bump in the road for some, it also serves as a gentle reminder of how much we rely on electricity in our daily lives. Here’s to the lights staying bright and our community embracing whatever comes our way with a smile!
