Green Sea, SC – Graham “Sandy” Rogers, beloved member of the Green Sea community, passed away at his home on May 14, 2025, at the age of 74. Sandy was born on November 22, 1950, in Conway, South Carolina, and was raised in Green Sea, where he became an integral part of the local farming community.
Sandy was the son of James Samuel and Inez Harrelson Rogers. After graduating from Tabor City High School, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completing his sophomore year before being drafted into the Army. Following his military service, Sandy embarked on a career in hospitality, gaining recognition as the director of sales and marketing at the Hilton Gulf Shores Resort in Alabama, as well as the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Sandy pursued various interests throughout his life. He held a private pilot’s license and was involved in several business ventures alongside his brother, Jim. Together, they operated a sporting goods shop in Atlanta and later ran a travel agency in Myrtle Beach. Sandy’s passion for golf was a significant part of his life, as he often valued the lessons he learned from his father, affectionately known as “Mr. Jimmy.”
An avid supporter of Duke University sports, Sandy also had a deep connection to the culinary arts, often recalling the cherished recipes he learned from his mother, whom he referred to as “Miss Inez.” After returning to his hometown, Sandy became a prominent figure at the Green Sea Baptist Church, where he found a true sense of family and support. He actively participated in church activities, notably preparing Wednesday night suppers and contributing to outreach and missions projects.
Throughout his life, Sandy maintained strong family ties. He is survived by his two sisters, Anna Lyon Rogers and Carole Rogers, as well as a niece, Elizabeth Rogers Ratledge, and her husband Brian. His legacy continues with several nephews, including James R. Rogers and his wife Catherine, Edward Hedrick and his wife Donna, Jonathan Rogers, and Stephen Rogers. Sandy is also survived by a number of great-nieces and great-nephews: Jami, Jessica, Edward, Abby, Lucy, John Brian, Jimmy, Charlie, and Bethany.
Sandy is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James “Jim” Charles Rogers. A memorial graveside service is scheduled for June 21, 2025, at 1 o’clock at Myrtle Green Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Charles Brust, pastor of Green Sea Baptist Church.
