Born on January 13, 1940, in Warren, Ohio, Gary was not just a remarkable individual but also a devoted family man. Throughout his life, he was a loving husband to his wife, Marcia Jenkins, and a nurturing father to his children, Sherrie Jenkins and Steve Jenkins. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, as he doted on his grandchildren, Zaida Jenkins Hendershot, Natalie Jenkins, and Claire Jenkins.
Gary’s family also included his daughter-in-law, Julie Jenkins, and Zaida’s husband, Courtland Hendershot, further enriching the love that surrounded him. He enjoyed a close bond with his brother, Haven Jenkins, highlighting the importance of family throughout his life.
A Spiritual Journey
Gary’s spiritual journey began when he was baptized in 1976 at Braceville Christian Church, a place he proudly called his spiritual home for over 50 years. He dedicated significant time and effort to the church, serving as the chairman of the trustees for a decade, showcasing his commitment to fostering a sense of community.
Work and Service
A proud graduate of Leavittsburg High School in 1959, Gary went on to devote an impressive 43 years of his life to Denman Tire Manufacturing, retiring in 2002. He was not just an employee; he brought his talents as a carpenter to life, working on countless projects from 1962 to 2002 and even remodeling his family home and his parents’ retirement residence.
Gary also served his country with honor in the Army from July 1963 to July 1965. He was recognized for his expertise in marksmanship and returned home with an honorable discharge, embodying the spirit of service that defined his life.
Hobbies and Passions
Outside of work and service, Gary had a zest for life that shone through in his hobbies. He found joy in woodworking—creating beautiful pieces that reflected his skill and love for the craft. Golfing was another passion, and he often enjoyed weekends spent playing under the sun. Gary was an outdoor enthusiast, loved country dancing, and had an eye for collecting items that caught his curiosity.
Known for his loving, compassionate, and humble nature, Gary had an innate ability to accept and embrace all people. His favorite scripture, Philippians 4:6, reminded him of the importance of prayer and thanksgiving in his life.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a memorial visitation scheduled for December 11, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Braceville Christian Church. Following the visitation, a memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., led by Pastor Jeff Sagstetter, allowing everyone to come together to celebrate Gary’s rich legacy.
A luncheon at the church at 1 p.m. will follow, providing a space for loved ones to reminisce and share stories. Gary will be laid to rest at Pine Knoll Cemetery in Lordstown.
