Suffern, New York – Esteemed Rockland attorney and community leader Steve Fromson passed away at the age of 75. Fromson, who was born in 1949 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York, left a significant mark in both the legal field and local community through decades of dedicated service.

Fromson graduated from Spring Valley High School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School, graduating cum laude. His career began early when he became a licensed real estate salesperson while still a freshman in college, balancing his academic responsibilities with a successful career in residential and commercial real estate.

In 1976, Fromson joined the law firm Greenberg and Wanderman in Spring Valley. Following his rise to partnership, the firm was renamed Greenberg, Wanderman and Fromson. Throughout his career, he practiced law fervently, committing over three decades to various educational institutions. He served as General Counsel for the East Ramapo Central School District for 32 years, the Suffern Central School District for 30 years, and Rockland BOCES for 26 years. His enduring impact in these roles was marked by his accessibility and support for board members and school staff alike.

Fromson also took great joy in mentoring young administrators who advanced to superintendent roles, making a lasting impact on the educational landscape of Rockland County. His legal expertise and supportive nature earned him respect among peers and clients.

He is survived by his long-time partner Ronna Zoberman, his mother Charlotte Steinberg, and his siblings: Gerald Fromson from North Carolina, Paul Fromson from Greensboro, North Carolina, and Sharon Birnbaum from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In addition, he leaves behind many nephews and nieces, grandnephews, and a grandniece.

Known for his unique ability to blend seriousness in law with a great sense of humor, Fromson eased tensions in challenging situations, making him beloved by many. Outside of his professional life, he had a diverse range of interests, including a passion for travel, Broadway shows, and dining out. He cherished annual trips to Tanglewood and Aruba, appreciated Motown music, and remained an avid reader. A self-described news junkie, he was deeply interested in American history and politics.

Engagement in the Rockland community was a hallmark of Fromson’s life. He served as president of the Rockland County Bar Association and held key positions within the American Heart Association, including as president of the Rockland-Orange-Sullivan Chapter. Fromson also contributed significantly to Cornell Cooperative Extension as a board member for 18 years and was a leader with Child Care Resources of Rockland County.

His dedicated volunteer activities included helping establish the Mediation Program for the Volunteer Counseling Service. He was part of Leadership Rockland’s Class of 1995, mentored students through the Career Apprenticeship Program at Ramapo High School, and actively participated in several charitable funds, including those honoring Senator Eugene Levy and Dr. Jack R. Anderson.

Funeral services for Steve Fromson are scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels in Spring Valley, New York, with interment to follow at Gates of Zion Cemetery in Airmont, New York.
