Myrtle Beach – A 17-year-old employee at Peaches Corner restaurant has been charged with murder following a deadly shooting incident late Friday night. The altercation took place at approximately 11:15 p.m. at the restaurant located at 900 N. Ocean Blvd. Witnesses reported a frantic scene as gunfire erupted, resulting in one fatality and injuries to another individual.

The shooting escalated after Evany McCray, the teenage employee, exchanged words with another individual before discharging a firearm multiple times. One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while their identity remains undisclosed pending notification to family by the Horry County Coroner’s Office. A second victim was struck by a bullet while crossing the street outside the establishment and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

In the wake of this incident, Assistant Police Chief Chris Smith confirmed that McCray is being charged as an adult and faces multiple serious charges. These include murder, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a minor. A bond hearing held on Saturday resulted in no bail being set for the assault charge, while bail for the weapon possession charges was set at $250,000. The murder charge will require review by a higher court for potential bail consideration.

Police officers, who were patrolling the area at the time of the event, quickly responded to the sound of gunfire and arrested McCray within two minutes of the shooting. Assistant Chief Smith expressed concern regarding the proliferation of youth illegally carrying firearms and engaging in violent conduct.

This shooting incident follows a previous event in which an 18-year-old was killed by law enforcement after firing into a crowd on Ocean Boulevard just two months prior. These incidents have prompted Myrtle Beach Police to enhance their presence in the downtown area as part of ongoing community safety initiatives.

Authorities are also calling for public assistance, requesting any photos or videos from individuals who may have witnessed the incident. This appeal underscores the urgency to gather more information about the events that unfolded on that fateful night.

Recent data indicates that eleven individuals, ranging from ages 13 to 43, have been injured in various shooting incidents within the area, raising alarm about gun violence and the safety of the community.

As investigations continue, the Myrtle Beach community grapples with the implications of this tragic event and the impact of youth involvement in violent crime.
