Myrtle Beach – A 17-year-old from Conway named Evany McCray has been arrested following a deadly shooting at Peaches Corner, a restaurant located at 900 N. Ocean Boulevard. The incident took place late Friday night on June 27, 2025, around 11:15 p.m., resulting in one fatality and another individual sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

McCray faces several serious charges, including murder, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and two weapons violations—specifically, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm. Despite being a minor, McCray is being charged as an adult, and a circuit court judge will determine the bond for the murder charge. Bond has been denied for the assault charge, while the charges related to the weapons violations are set at $250,000 each.

The shooting reportedly began after an altercation involving McCray, who was identified as an employee of Peaches Corner, and another individual who entered the establishment. As the altercation escalated, shots were fired, injuring one victim inside the restaurant and causing another victim to be hit across the street at 9th Avenue North.

According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers arrived at the scene within two minutes of the shots being fired and swiftly detained McCray. The investigation is currently ongoing, and the names of the victims have not been released to the public.

Assistant Police Chief Chris Smith has expressed condolences to the victims and underscored the ongoing issue of youth violence and unlawful firearm possession, describing it as a nationwide concern. The police department is actively reevaluating existing minor curfew ordinances in response to the rise in violence within the community.

Eyewitnesses described a rapid response from law enforcement and voiced concerns regarding safety in the Myrtle Beach area following this tragic incident. Local authorities are appealing to the public for assistance and are requesting anyone with video footage or photographs from the incident to come forward and contact them at 843-918-1382.

Chief of Police Amy Prock has emphasized the urgency of addressing violence in the community and the need for collaboration with local legislators to create effective solutions to this troubling trend. The severe nature of this incident is prompting a closer examination of the factors contributing to youth involvement in violence and illegal firearm possession.

As the investigation continues, the Myrtle Beach Police Department remains focused on preventive measures and community safety, while the community grapples with the implications of such violence occurring within a popular local establishment.
