As the summer sun begins to fade, the First Coast is buzzing with excitement as local colleges like the University of North Florida (UNF), Jacksonville University (JU), and Flagler College gear up for an exhilarating collegiate golf season. Players are lining up, clubs are being polished, and tournament schedules are set – it’s time to hit the greens!
Men’s Teams Swinging into Action
The men’s golf teams are firing up with the first tournament of the season. The UNF men’s team will kick things off at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate hosted at the picturesque Tennessee National Golf Club from September 5-7, 2024. Following close behind, JU’s men will take their talents to the stunning scenic views of Myrtle Beach for the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate from September 7-9, 2024.
Locally, the Flagler men’s team will show off their skills at the Jennison Cup at King & Bear, taking place on September 29-30, 2024. What a great way to start the season!
Women’s Teams Ready to Shine
Meanwhile, the UNF women’s team is set to kick off their season at the Boilermaker Classic in West Lafayette, Indiana from September 1-3, 2024. Not to be outdone, the JU women’s team takes the tee box in Statesboro, Georgia at The Southern from September 8-9, 2024. The Flagler women’s team will begin their journey at the Eckerd Invitational at Pasadena Yacht and Country Club in St. Petersburg on September 22-23, 2024.
As the season progresses, fans will be thrilled to hear that Flagler’s men are heading all the way to Las Vegas, while UNF’s men will enjoy a tropical trip to Hawaii! Then, come spring 2025, both the men’s and women’s teams from UNF are also packing their bags for exciting competitions in Puerto Rico.
Upcoming Hosting Duties
Both JU and UNF have some noteworthy events in store with JU’s men set to host the Sea Best Invitational on February 2-3, 2025 at Atlantic Beach Country Club, and UNF’s men holding the prestigious The Hayt tournament from March 7-9, 2025 at Sawgrass Country Club.
Flagler is also hosting significant matches, including the World Golf Invitational on February 9-10, 2025, and the Peach Belt Conference tournament from April 19-21, 2025 at King & Bear. Adding to the thrill, the women’s teams from UNF and JU will compete together in the ASUN Championship in Alabama from April 17-19, 2025.
New Faces, New Talents
This year, there’s also excitement about new talents joining the roster. The UNF men’s team has recently signed three impressive players: Laurens Schulze-Doering from Malta, JP Parr from Quebec, and Diego Alvarez Perez hailing from Panama. Schulze-Doering, the grad senior, is no stranger to the game, having previously played at Young Harris College!
The women’s side welcomed some standout talents as well, including Mohea Mansbendel, a two-time NAIA first-team All-American transferring from Keiser University, alongside Brianna Castaldi from East Tennessee and Ines Izuzquiza Ruiz de Arana with Ava Cottis from Savannah, Georgia. It’s all about building a strong and competitive team!
