Blake C. Alford, Esteemed Golf Course Superintendent and Family Man, Passes Away at 59

The cozy city of Asheville, NC is mourning the loss of a beloved local figure, Blake C. Alford, who passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at Mission Hospital. He left this world at the age of 59, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a passion for the great outdoors.

A Life Dedicated to Family and Work

Born on September 6, 1966, in Monmouth County, NJ, Blake was a man who devoted his life to his family and work. Not only known for his professionalism in the world of golf course management, he was also cherished as a devoted father and dear friend. Over the years, Blake made his mark as a Superintendent for several notable golf courses, including the renowned Wizard in Myrtle Beach, Meadow Woods in Orlando, FL, and both Wyboo and Shannon Greens in Manning, SC.

After stepping away from golf course management, Blake transitioned into entrepreneurship, establishing his very own landscaping business. His passion for the outdoors thrived in this new venture, and he continued to pour his heart into everything he did.

A Passion for the Outdoors

Blake had a strong admiration for the natural world around him. He enjoyed an array of outdoor activities, from camping and kayaking to fishing, hiking, and of course, golfing. Whether he was casting a line in the lake or wandering through the woods on a weekend hike, Blake found joy and serenity in nature.

A Family Man at Heart

When it came to family, Blake was second to none. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones, always making time for family gatherings and celebrations. His role as a father was particularly important to him. He devoted his time to coaching his son, Dylan, not only in baseball but also in golf, instilling values of teamwork and sportsmanship along the way.

In addition to his son, Blake’s family included his beloved sister, Catherine “Kitty” Alford Mason, and he was proud of being an uncle to many cherished nieces and nephews, including Christopher Alford and family, Emily Kampas and family, Chelsea Caprio and family, Erik Mason and family, and Heather-Dawn Linnens and family. Blake was also a dedicated friend to his former wife, Tori Taylor, with whom he shared a bond beyond their marriage.

A Man of Integrity and Humor

Blake’s character was defined by his honesty, genuine nature, and sense of humor. He had a smile that could light up any room and was known for never speaking ill of others. Friends and family alike describe him as a man who spread joy and laughter wherever he went, making memorable moments out of the mundane.

Remembering Blake

Blake is deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him, especially following the loss of his parents, Norman H. and Blanche Durrance Alford, his infant son, Taylor, and his brothers, Mark L. Alford and Gregory G. “Greg” Alford. His kind spirit and loving heart will linger on in the memories of those he touched.

A memorial service in honor of Blake Alford is set for November 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM, to be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Following the service, the family invites friends and loved ones to gather and celebrate Blake’s remarkable life, sharing stories and laughter in his memory.

In this time of sorrow, the community of Asheville, along with Blake’s family, holds tight to the cherished memories of a man who truly lived life to the fullest, inspiring others through his love for family, nature, and kindness.
