Boardman, Ohio Mourns the Loss of Beloved Firefighter Thomas P. Donadee
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Thomas P. Donadee, a dedicated firefighter and cherished community member, passed away at the age of 61 on December 22, 2025. Surrounded by his loving family, Tom passed after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment to his friends, family, and fellow firefighters.
A Life of Service and Commitment
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Thomas was raised by his proud parents, Frank and Janet Donadee. After graduating from Austintown Fitch High School in 1982, his journey of service began. Tom enlisted in the National Guard, completing basic training at Fort McClellan in Alabama, which set the tone for his lifelong dedication to his community.
In pursuit of higher education, Tom attended Youngstown State University and earned a degree in marketing in 1988. However, it was his time at 5D Construction Company, a family business where he worked alongside his father and brothers from 1982 to 1995, that showcased his outstanding work ethic and commitment to family values.
A Firefighting Career
In 1995, Tom made a pivotal career change by joining the Boardman Township Fire Department. His passion for helping others led him to serve until his last days, ultimately rising to the rank of lieutenant and becoming a fire inspector. His dedication to the safety and well-being of the community will not be forgotten as he consistently exemplified the heroics associated with firefighting.
Family and Coaching
Tom’s love for family shone brightly in his personal life as he met his wife, Karen, in Daytona Beach in 1983. The couple tied the knot on November 5, 1988, and together, they raised two sons, Jake and Tommy. He was not just a father; he was also a passionate coach who made a significant impact on the lives of young athletes. He began coaching the Boardman Local 1176 flag football team and spent several seasons with the Canfield Little Cardinals. His leadership was felt deeply through his time coaching at Canfield Middle School as well.
Living Life to the Fullest
When Tom wasn’t busy with his firefighting duties or coaching young athletes, he enjoyed an active lifestyle filled with adventure. He loved golfing, engaging in pickleball, and making cherished memories while camping at Cook Forest. One of his favorite pastimes included traveling to Lake Placid with Tommy, creating bonds that would last a lifetime.
For over 30 years, Tom has participated in annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach, relishing quality time with friends. He also looked forward to family vacations at St. Pete Beach, where good times were had by all. A true sports fan, many weekends were spent watching his favorite teams like the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. As a seasoned tailgater, he enjoyed cheering on Youngstown State football games alongside friends.
A Loving Tribute
Tom’s culinary skills were another point of pride, especially when it came to his infamous hot peppers and oil! He is mourned by his mother, Janet Donadee; his wife, Karen; sons, Tommy and Jake; brothers, Richard and John; sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Sadly, he is also preceded in death by his father, Frank Donadee; his brother, Robert Donadee; and his parents-in-law.
Final Farewell
To honor his memory, calling hours are scheduled for January 3, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, followed by a service at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel. The family requests that donations be made to the Boardman Professional Firefighters Local 1176 Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
