Bethlehem Says Goodbye to Beloved Local Legend Francis J. Molchan
In a bittersweet moment for the Bethlehem community, Francis J. Molchan, aged 99, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025. His warmth and spirited personality will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Francis took his final breath at Sacred Heart Living by the Creek, where he spent his last days in comfort and care.
A Life Well-Lived
Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Francis was the cherished son of John and Mary (Superka) Molchan. He led a life rich with experiences, having graduated from Whitehall High School before serving his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His dedication to duty saw him stationed in Okinawa, a period that shaped his character and instilled a sense of pride that he carried with him throughout his life.
Post-war, Francis built a solid career, working at Mack Trucks for many years before moving on to become a layout operator at Lucent Technologies. His commitment and expertise led him to a happy retirement in 1987 after nearly three decades of service.
Family and Faith
Family was of utmost importance to Francis, who shared a beautiful 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife Rosemarie A. (Lukish) Molchan, who sadly passed away in March 2004. They raised two wonderful sons, Francis T. Molchan and Thomas J. Molchan, who both carry their father’s legacy forward. Francis is also fondly remembered by his daughters-in-law, Deborah and Karen Serafino, along with his four adored grandchildren: Stephanie Cesare and her husband Matthew, Michael Molchan and his wife Kaitlyn, Eric Molchan, and Alexandra Molchan. Adding to the family joy, he was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Carson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A true member of the community, Francis found solace and a sense of belonging at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Bethlehem, where his faith remained a guiding force in his life.
A Sports Enthusiast
Francis was not just a family man; he was also a passionate sports fan. Whether it was cheering on Penn State, the Phillies, or the Eagles, his enthusiasm was infectious. For over 20 years, he shared his love for basketball by officiating games, inspiring young athletes along the way. In retirement, he cherished the moments spent at Phillies spring training and relished the decade-long tradition he and Rose created, visiting Myrtle Beach during winter to indulge in golfing.
Final Farewell
As we gather to pay our respects, family and friends are invited to a calling period on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, located at 1861 Catasauqua Rd, Bethlehem, PA. This will be followed by a heartfelt Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at the Assumption B.V.M. Mausoleum in Northampton, ensuring that Francis’s spirit will continue to be a part of our community.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Senior Living by the Creek or The Mary Campbell Center. For those wishing to share their condolences or fond memories, you can do so online at www.brubakerfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are being handled by Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Catasauqua.
