Early Life and Career
Terry was born on March 16, 1940, in Beallsville, Ohio, to his loving parents, Cleo P. and Donald R. Morris. His journey began at Cedar Elementary School, and he later graduated from Timken High School in 1958. At just 17 years old, he took his first job at Stark Dry Goods in Downtown Canton, a sign of his hard-working spirit.
In 1957, he embarked on a remarkable 33-year journey with the Timken Company, starting his career as an Apprentice in the Tool Room in the Bearing division. It was here that he worked tirelessly, moving through various departments, including the Suggestion Department in the Steel division and Job Evaluation, eventually making his way to the Systems Department in the Bearing Operations division. He bid farewell to his Timken career with retirement at age 50 in 1990.
A Passion for Sports and Golf
Terry’s athletic talent was evident from a young age. He began his sports journey with Little League baseball at the age of nine and went on to play basketball. Later in life, he found joy in leisure leagues, playing fumbleball. His remarkable skills in sports earned him a well-deserved spot in the Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame.
One of Terry’s greatest pastimes was golf. He proudly achieved an impressive four holes in one throughout his golf career, showcasing his remarkable talent at various golf clubs. Beyond golf, Terry also enjoyed volleyball and bowling during the winter, demonstrating his versatile love for sports.
Family and Personal Life
Family always came first for Terry. He first met his wife, Kay, on September 14, 1957, and they celebrated their love with marriage on May 9, 1959. Together, they prioritized creating beautiful memories with their family, making annual vacations special and unforgettable. Fishing trips with friends were also a favorite, and Terry often shared fond stories from these adventures.
As their daughters grew, Terry and Kay embraced the opportunity to enjoy longer vacations with family and friends, exploring destinations like Myrtle Beach and Lakeview Country Club in West Virginia. A true animal lover, Terry loved capturing moments with animals during his travels, cherishing every photo.
tragedy struck in July 2023 when Terry lost his beloved wife Kay after 64 wonderful years together. This loss deeply affected him, yet his love for family shone through as he continued to support his daughters and grandchildren.
Lasting Legacy
Terry is survived by his daughters Beth Spaude (Todd) of Minnesota and Lora Wenger of Bolivar, Ohio, as well as his cherished grandchildren Jessica Elliott (Brett), Jake and Katie Spaude, Haley Wenger, and great-grandsons Hudson and Blake Elliott. He also leaves behind many nieces, cousins, and friends who will continue to remember his warm spirit.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on September 26, 2025, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Reed Funeral Home in Canton, Ohio, followed by a funeral service on September 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastor Lisa Elliott from The Church of the Open Door in Sandyville will lead the service and provide comfort to all in attendance. Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charitable organization of one’s choice in memory of Terry. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude towards the staff and friends at The Meadows Senior Living in Savage, Minnesota, and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care during Terry’s final months.
