His legacy continues through his family, who he cherished deeply, even as he faced loss. He requested no services, allowing loved ones to celebrate his impactful life in their own way.

Goodbye to a Local Legend: Roger H. Linville Passes Away at 81

East Liverpool, Ohio, recently said goodbye to one of its own, Roger H. Linville, who passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. This long-time resident and beloved member of the community had reached the age of 81. He spent his final days under hospice care at East Liverpool City Hospital, where he took his last breath surrounded by compassion and care.

A Life Well-Lived

Roger was more than just a name in the community; he was a true standout. He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1963, leaving behind a legacy as a remarkable athlete. Known for his skills on the court and field, Roger excelled in basketball, baseball, and cross country, holding school records for many years. His talent not only earned him admiration from family and friends but also left a lasting mark on the local sports scene.

After his high school years, Roger answered the call of duty by serving in the Army during the Vietnam War era from 1965 to 1967. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to East Liverpool, determined to make his mark back home.

Career and Retirement

Roger dedicated an impressive 42 years of his life at Crucible Steel, where he worked until his well-earned retirement. The commitment he showed in his career was only matched by his passion for the game of golf once he hung up his work boots. In retirement, Roger became an avid golfer, actively participating in local golf leagues and often sharing unforgettable golfing trips to Myrtle Beach with friends. Those trips are filled with cherished memories and stories that his loved ones will undoubtedly hold onto.

Family Man at Heart

At the heart of Roger’s life was his family. He was married to his loving wife, Carole (Reese) Linville, on March 2, 1984, and together they shared a fulfilling 41 years of marriage. He was the proud father of a son, Roger Linville, who resides in Port Orange, Florida. Although Roger faced profound loss with the passing of another son, Mike Linville, of Tennessee, he found immense joy and purpose in his role as a stepfather. He helped raise three step-daughters: Holly (Kelly) Keller of Canfield, Ohio; Heather Keller of Wellsville, Ohio; and Marcie (Ron) Ammon of East Liverpool.

Roger’s love for family was reflected in the seven grandchildren he cherished dearly: Kaylee and Ryan Linville of Florida; Lyndsey Linville of Tennessee; Ali Ammon of East Liverpool; along with Olivia Keller of Canfield and Kyleigh Keller of Wellsville. His legacy will undoubtedly carry on through them, as he instilled values of sportsmanship, dedication, and love in everything he did.

A Final Wish

In honoring Roger’s memory, it is important to note that he requested no services be held. This very personal decision will be respected by all who knew and loved him, allowing them to celebrate his life in their own way.

As East Liverpool grieves the loss of Roger H. Linville, we also celebrate the impactful life he led and the cherished memories he leaves behind. His contributions to his family, friends, and the wider community will remain a part of East Liverpool’s rich history. Roger may be gone, but he will certainly not be forgotten.
