Bermudian Golfers Start Strong at Myrtle Beach World Amateur

Bermudian golfers commenced the 2026 Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship with strong performances on September 1, recording several top-ten finishes in the opening round held in Myrtle Beach. The tournament, hosted in the Grand Strand, draws amateur golfers from around the world to the region known for its numerous golf courses.

Tracy Burgess led the Bermudian contingent, securing a tie for fifth place in Flight 52 of the Women’s Gross division with a score of 79. Ann Symonds also achieved a top-ten position, tying for ninth in Flight 53 of the Women 59 and Under division after posting a gross 82 and a net 75. Angela Cook, competing in the same flight, finished tied for 22nd with a gross 91 and net 80.

In the Senior Women 60 and Above division, Ann Mitchell placed tied for eighth in Flight 55, recording a gross 90 and a net 79. For the men, David Abraham and Antony Than both carded a gross 83 in Flight 22 of the Mid Senior Men 60-69 division, finishing tied for 18th and 22nd with net scores of 78 and 79, respectively. Richard Marriott, participating in Flight 9 of the Senior Men 50-59 division, posted a gross and net score of 86, placing him tied for 49th. Gary Venning completed the opening round of Flight 44 in the Super Senior Men 70-79 division in 48th place with a gross 105 and net 94.
