Hwy 701 Widening Continues Under Horry RIDE 3 Plan

CONWAY, S.C. — Drivers on U.S. Highway 701 north of Conway should expect ongoing lane work as Horry County’s RIDE 3 program widens the corridor between SC Highway 319 and Highway 22, county officials said this week.

The county project page describes a five-lane section with a center turn lane plus sidewalks and wider travel lanes for bikes and pedestrians. Crews added asphalt in September between SC 319 and Harris Shortcut and are leveling the new pavement while digging drainage ditches and shifting water and sewer lines.

County public information director Thomas Bell said activity has picked up with warmer weather, and that relocating utilities will take several more months before paving finishes. The official schedule puts contract completion in fall 2028.

A separate county update put the job at about $65 million for roughly 4.5 miles of widening. Horry County Government asked motorists to stay alert through the work zone while the preliminary utility phase continues.
