MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Four Horry County football players, including Myrtle Beach receiver J.J. Brown, made the South roster for this year’s Touchstone Energy Bowl, the state’s North-South senior all-star game that will be played in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 12.
Joining Brown are Loris running back Deuce Stephens and two Carolina Forest linemen, George Handley on defense and Michael Ries III on offense. Each all-star team carries 44 players, and the lists came out Wednesday.
Brown leads the Seahawks’ passing game with 48 catches, 753 yards and nine scores through seven games. He also won high jump gold at the National Junior Olympics this summer and plans to play at Texas Tech.
Stephens has run for 1,310 yards and 20 touchdowns on 127 carries for Loris. Handley, who also wrestles, has 28 tackles and seven sacks, and Ries anchors a Panthers line that has paved the way for more than 1,400 rushing yards.
This will be the 79th edition of the game. Kickoff is set for noon at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, the home field of Myrtle Beach High School.
