MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A $10 keepsake from the Myrtle Beach Police Department will help pay for the city’s new Family Justice Center, as the department marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a challenge coin sale.
Every dollar raised from the commemorative coins goes to the center, according to the department. Buyers need to bring cash, since that is the only form of payment being taken.
The department is collecting orders until the close of business on Nov. 6. Once the order is placed with the maker, no more coins can be added, so anyone who misses the deadline will not be able to get one later.
October is set aside nationally to raise awareness of domestic violence, and the police department is using the month to put money behind a local resource for people affected by it. Questions and purchases go through the city police department.
