MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The annual Myrtle Beach Greek Festival opened Thursday at St. John Greek Orthodox Church and keeps going through Sunday, Oct. 18, with Greek cooking, live music and dancing on the church grounds off North 33rd Avenue Extension.
Tickets cost $5 at the gate, and kids 10 and under get in for free. Plan to leave any pets behind, since organizers have asked that animals stay home. Shoppers can browse booths run by local vendors.
Guided tours of the church are offered every day at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and a prayer service is held daily at 5:30 p.m. Youth and adult dance groups perform each day, with set times shared on the festival social media pages.
Shuttles loop to and from the grounds every 10 minutes and are the easiest way in, according to festival organizers, since only a few handicap spaces are set aside in the main church lot.
The church says part of the money raised each year goes to local charities, and it treats the weekend as a way to share its faith and heritage with neighbors along the Grand Strand.
