MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Of the two Myrtle Beach-area boys volleyball teams still alive this week, one is playing for a state title and one saw its season end Thursday night.
Carolina Forest (23-8) meets Rock Hill (16-4) on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Columbia for the Class 5A championship, the top classification in South Carolina. The Panthers got there by sweeping Cane Bay 3-0, outlasting Socastee 3-2 and beating Summerville 3-1. Noah Pettijohn, a junior, and Chris Botse-Baidoo, a senior, have led the way.
Myrtle Beach (20-6) came up one win short of joining them in a title match. The Seahawks traveled to Mount Pleasant on Thursday, Oct. 29, to face Lucy Beckham (22-3) and lost 3-1. The Bengals move on to play Indian Land for a state championship Saturday.
On the girls side, Atlantic Collegiate (21-7) is the last Horry County team left. The Armada, unbeaten at 12-0 in region play, face Oceanside Collegiate (24-1) on Monday, Nov. 2, with a spot in the Class 3A final at stake.
