MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Shoppers on the north end of Myrtle Beach have their neighborhood grocery back. Walmart’s Neighborhood Market on North Kings Highway, at No. 3915, opened its doors again Monday morning, ending a shutdown of close to a month for renovations.
The store went dark in September for what the company described as a planned remodel. It returned with a ribbon cutting that included music from the Myrtle Beach High School band and a nod to employees who have worked there for years.
Three local groups split $3,000 in grants handed out at the event: Santa Claus for Paws, EmpowerLit and the Horry County Shop with a Cop program.
Inside, the reworked layout adds sushi prepared on site and a new bakery where customers can order decorated cakes. The pharmacy has been updated, there are more grab-and-go choices, and the store has been set up to handle a larger volume of online grocery orders and pickups.
Store manager Carmen Garris said the cake station and the bigger pickup operation are meant to make trips quicker and easier for customers.
The Kings Highway location is one of a series of Neighborhood Market stores the retailer has been modernizing.
