CONWAY, S.C. — Camisha McGaskey will spend the rest of her life in prison after a jury in Conway, S.C., on Friday, Oct. 23, found her guilty of murdering 11-year-old A’Kyri Bell and of obstructing the investigation into the girl’s death.
Jurors needed a little more than an hour to reach the verdict. The Horry County Police Department investigated the case, and Solicitor Jimmy Richardson and his staff prosecuted it and pushed for the maximum penalty.
A’Kyri, who lived with McGaskey in Carolina Forest, died in June 2025 from blunt force injuries. McGaskey, 32, was her caregiver at the time, and emergency crews found the girl unresponsive at the home.
The court imposed life for the murder and added a 10-year term for obstruction, to be served back to back. That count centered on accusations that McGaskey gave false accounts to officers and tried to get rid of evidence such as cameras and deleted messages.
Before the case went to the jury, the judge turned down a defense bid to let jurors consider a lesser manslaughter charge.
