A new seafood restaurant has taken over one of the most visible waterfront spots at Broadway at the Beach, with Big Fish officially opening its doors this week in the space long occupied by Liberty Tap Room & Grill before that restaurant closed in 2020 after 25 years in business.
The 21,000-square-foot restaurant sits at 1321 Celebrity Circle and includes a 5,000-square-foot covered deck overlooking Lake Broadway, complete with a stage for live music. Inside, a 70-seat bar topped with 22 televisions anchors the dining room, alongside a separate 26-seat oyster bar for guests who want a more focused raw-bar experience.
Big Fish is the latest project from co-owners Peter Haentjens and Adam Langford, longtime Grand Strand restaurant veterans who previously ran Dead Dog Saloon and The Claw House together. The pair worked with Homegrown Hospitality co-founder Jerry Scheer to build out the new concept, which leans on a seafood-forward, Southern-inspired menu built around the restaurant’s waterfront setting.
The restaurant will run lunch, dinner and late-night bar service daily, with a weekday happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. offering food and drink specials. Its arrival adds another sit-down dining option to Broadway at the Beach’s dense restaurant lineup, joining a wave of recent additions to the entertainment complex that has also welcomed new distillery, brewery and retail concepts to the property this year. For a stretch of Celebrity Circle that sat dark for several years after Liberty Tap Room’s closure, Big Fish’s debut restores a large waterfront restaurant presence to one of Myrtle Beach’s busiest tourist corridors just as the fall shoulder season gets underway.
