South Seas Hotel Closing for Off-Season
The South Seas Hotel in Myrtle Beach is closing for at least this year’s off-season, a move that is displacing long-term residents and their pets. Tenants received a message from management late last week, informing them they have until September 29 to move out.
According to a hotel staff member, the closure is for renovations, including updates to the paint and overall design features, and is expected to last until February.
Community Organizations Offer Assistance
Laurie Petersen, President of Cats of the Boardwalk, is actively working to find resources for the displaced residents and to rehome cats from the hotel area. Local homeless shelters, including New Directions, have been contacted and are prepared to assist anyone losing their place to stay.
William Howsare, Executive Director of New Directions, stated that individuals in this situation can work with case managers to transition into a new unit and find stable housing.
