Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Horry County closed public comment Monday on a trail master plan built around a continuous trail connecting Conway and Myrtle Beach, a path that would link the county seat with the Grand Strand for walkers and cyclists.
The public input survey closed Monday, October 12. County officials say the answers will help decide where the trail should go and what it should include, since the route and amenities have not been finalized.
County public information officer Kimberly Clifford said residents were asked what places the trail should connect and whether it should allow golf carts and bikes, along with features such as pet stations, water fountains and lighting at night.
State lawmakers allocated $2 million for the Conway-to-Myrtle Beach path, but some of the mapped route options are expected to cost more. The county is exploring grants and partnerships, which could let Conway and Myrtle Beach build their own sections while the county builds the connecting pieces.
The master plan will evaluate existing trails, identify gaps and opportunities, and set priorities for a safe, connected network that could improve access to schools, parks, and services. Depot Road outside Conway is being repaved, and Conway plans to add a bike lane to the Kingston Ferry area along the Waccamaw River. Public input meetings on a draft plan are expected later this year.
