MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Drivers near the oceanfront in Myrtle Beach will have to work around a closed intersection for the next two and a half weeks. The crossing of 24th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard shut down Monday, Oct. 19, and is set to stay closed through Thursday, Nov. 5, city officials said.
While the intersection is blocked, crews will move water, sewer and storm drain lines so work can begin on a new pump station and storm drain system for the area. Detour signs are posted.
The intersection closure is the latest phase of a longer drainage job on the same street. The block of 24th Avenue North between Ocean Boulevard and Kings Highway has been closed since early September while crews improve storm drainage and relocate a pump station, and that stretch is expected to stay closed through August 2027.
Anyone headed to that part of the beach should expect delays, follow the posted signs, use alternate routes and give themselves extra travel time.
