SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. — Famous Hamburger Joe’s in Surfside Beach has set its last day for Sunday, Nov. 15, ending a run of about two decades for the burger spot at 1410 U.S. 17 Business.
The family that has owned the restaurant for the past 10 years is retiring, and the closing was announced on the restaurant’s Facebook page on Monday, Nov. 2. In that message the owners thanked Surfside customers for years of loyalty and urged regulars to stop in for a final meal before the doors shut.
The property has been sold, a longtime shift manager said, though what will go on the site next has not been made public.
Everything inside will be sold. Myrtle Beach Auction Company plans a liquidation sale at the restaurant at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, Bidders will find seating, refrigeration units, a chilled draft beer setup, bar gear, TVs and souvenirs from the dining room. Pre-bidding opens Nov. 3 online.
The closing does not touch the original Hamburger Joe’s in North Myrtle Beach, which has operated for 37 years and will keep serving the same menu in the same setting fans know from Surfside.
