HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — Drivers heading inland from the Grand Strand ran into a full closure of Highway 22 in Horry County late Friday, as officers from several departments worked a search tied to a person wanted in Virginia.
The Horry County Police Department said around 9:30 p.m. that the four-lane highway was blocked in both directions from Highway 319 to Highway 501. The county department said it stepped in at the request of the Myrtle Beach Police Department, which had opened the case.
Conway police and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division also joined the effort. A CodeRED message went out to homes within roughly four miles of the search zone, and police urged motorists to stay clear and leave room for officers.
Earlier Friday, Myrtle Beach officers had chased a wanted suspect from the city toward the Conway and Aynor area. Police had not said whether that pursuit and the overnight closure were connected.
County police said they would post updates as the investigation moves forward.
