Myrtle Beach, S.C. — The Grand Strand Chef Table on Oct. 16 has moved from the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach on the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Grand Strand campus to Ellie Beach Resort at 3200 S. Ocean Blvd. after organizers faced alcohol rules at the college site.
State law bars alcohol consumption in public college buildings without a special permit. Rather than run a dry wine-and-dine program, organizers shifted the tasting event to the oceanfront resort, which was already hosting chefs and production staff.
Visit Myrtle Beach, a co-sponsor, said the Culinary Institute, chefs and students remain involved. Local Palate magazine is leading the second annual event in partnership with the James Beard Foundation and the institute.
The Chef Table debuted in 2025 at Pine Lakes Country Club and had been scheduled to showcase the culinary school complex near Market Common before the last-minute venue change.
Local Palate lists the Grand Strand Chef Table as a celebration of coastal cuisine, creative spirit and community in Myrtle Beach, framing the Oct. 16 stop as part of its Southern events calendar for food lovers.
