MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Myrtle Beach Police held a person Wednesday evening after a report that someone claimed an explosion was coming near Broadway at the Beach, then reopened the block once bomb technicians and K9 teams finished checking it.
Crews locked down Celebrity Circle near the 1100 block on a call about a suspicious person making that claim. Officers also recovered a backpack there. Police said nothing confirmed an explosive device inside it.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department said explosive ordnance disposal specialists and K9 teams cleared the area, with a 7:05 p.m. update confirming the sweep was complete. Officers remained nearby as detectives kept working the tip.
Authorities urged drivers and pedestrians to steer clear while the search was underway. Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach put out a note around 7:40 p.m. as the response played out along the tourist corridor.
Wednesday night briefings did not list charges, and investigators said follow-up work continued after the scene was marked secure.
