History
The area developed around Pine Lakes Country Club after its founding in 1927. Residential development expanded through the 1940s–1970s as Myrtle Beach's residential fabric grew northward along Kings Highway. The club's 1953 role in the founding of Sports Illustrated is a point of local pride.
