Myrtle Beach Teams Respond to Reported ‘Bite’ Incident at Local Hotel
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C
Emergency responders were dispatched to the Marriott Grand Dunes hotel in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday after receiving a call detailing a ‘shark bite’ incident. The call was reported at 10:48 a.m., according to statements given by Myrtle Beach Fire Dept. Captain Jonathan Evans.
Possible Shark Bite Incident
Despite early reports indicating a shark bite, it was later clarified by on-scene responders that the victim had actually been “bitten by something” the previous day while at Murrells Inlet. The patient had, understandably, grown concerned over their injury prompting the call to emergency services.
“The patient was already bitten yesterday and was still worried today,” stated Captain Jonathan Evans, dispelling rumors that a shark had been involved in the bite incident within city parameters.
No Life-Threatening Injuries Reported
Evans highlighted that the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and reassured the public that safety continues to be the top priority. Following extensive on-site checking and emergency treatment, the patient was reported in stable condition without any apparent life-threatening injuries. The species of the marine creature that caused the bite remains uncertain as investigations continue.
Marriott Grand Dunes Hotel at the Center of the Incident
The Marriott Grand Dunes, a popular hotel situated on the shores of Myrtle Beach, was the location of the emergency response. Upon receiving the call, the hotel management cooperated with the emergency crew, providing all the necessary assistance to ensure the well-being of the victim.
“Any situation involving our guests warrants immediate attention. We acted quickly, aiding local authorities in their response to the situation and ensuring the continued safety of those staying with us,” stated a representative from Marriott Grand Dunes.
Safety Measures in Place
The incident raises questions about marine creature interactions near the South Carolina coast. The administration reassured the public that all necessary precautions and safety measures are in place to prevent such incidents, and a thorough investigation is underway to understand this unusual event better.
Continued Governance with Safety at the Helm
Despite the concern such an incident is likely to cause amongst local residents and tourists, the fast response time and professional conduct exhibited by the emergency crews should serve as a reassuring reminder of the city’s commitment to safety and effective emergency services.
